getting my 2.8 v6 back together hope to have it done and in by Friday (I started this over 2 years ago it has been setting untouched most of that time). I just bolted the water pump and crank pulleys on yesterday only to realize they don't line up the crank pulley is about 1/8" of an inch further out than the WP pulley. Is there something I am missing or is this normal.

1986 SE, Just had the engine rebuilt has new dampener from the fiero store. reused the old water pump because it only had a couple of hundred miles on it.

I will try to get a good picture

thanks
Justin

Which one does the alternator line up with? That should tell us which one of these is out of whack at least.

No not normal.
And no you can't run engine like that. You break belt fasts with bad alignment.

fix it? don't know.
Maybe dampener is block/binding from being install.
Maybe replacement WP is made wrong, like Right part # on box but wrong part inside.

WP and alternator are aligned so it is the crank pulley looks like my rebuild guy may not have gotten it all the way on or it is a wrong part. I will pull it in the morning and compare it to the old one.

in the mean time I had some good progress today it is off the stand and in the cradle with the trans bolted up for the first time in over 2 years

scaring inside the inside of the dampener looks like he got it a little out of line when pressing it on. Off to the parts store for some wet/dry and a proper installation tool
