So a friend of mine has a 91 camaro that had R-12 refrigerant just like my Fiero. I was wondering how many of you have used this stuff and had good luck with it. My A/C system is still complete and I did not break the lines when I swapped motors. I know when I turn on the A/C now I can see the idle of the car change but I do not ear the compressor cycling. I had Freeze 12 in an old truck I had and was not impressed but I think the shop that did it did not put enough in because it was never truely cold air coming out of the vents. My buddy says his is ice cold now?? If I were to buy a kit to put this stuff in would I be better off pulling a vacuum and changing the oil too? Kit also comes with leak detector/sealer. I have a buddy who does lots of A/C work but I cannot afford the cost to change out everything and switch to R134. Comments/suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Freeze 12 is mostly 134a, with 20% 142. I've seen a couple of guys use it, it's OK, nothing to rave about. Nowhere near as good as using propane.

I've got 40° F duct temps at idle yesterday when it was 94° F outside using R134 self conversion. Cost me under $100 too with new receiver/dryer, orifice tube and 3 cans R134. I replaced all o-rings and used primary seal adapters on low/high side valves. I pulled a vacuum for over and hour prior to charging. Very satisfied.

Changing to 134 doesn't cost that much, if you've got the right compressor in your Fiero. You can just vacuum out the old stuff, change the orifice tube, and refill with 134, I believe. But as was said, there are many threads on it.

If you put in anything other than R-12 or R-134,
your AC system is considered worthless and no shop will touch it, as they will never want to contaminate thier recovery system.
BTW my R-134 has gotten 33deg temp at the vent

X2

Hve checked with several shops around me in Phx and if it has anythin gbut R-12 or 134, they won't touch. I converted mine and am getting 35* air. I also had a thread on this.

Have used Freeze12 for over 7 yrs with no problems. Some day when compressor craps out then I will change to R134a. I don't care about A/C shops crap because I do all my A/C work. Invest in a good set of gages and a vacuum pump and save a lot of $$ down the road.
