I would say that would cause problems immediately if you use the parking brake.

Could cause your Ebrake to hang, Spring is there to the brake lever on the caliper go back into place, it will definitely make your EBRAKE lever show it's on cause the cables not pulling the lever back into place. My GT does this now. I've got to fix it.

At any moment. The symptom will be rear brake dragging, since the springs are not pushing the parking brake levers back to the rest position. Those springs need to be on there, even if you never use the parking brake.

One of my prior fieros needed brake work and a new rear caliper. I took it to a shop (this was before I learned how to work on them) to have the work done. They forgot the spring on a new caliper. I made it two blocks down the road before the caliper started to grab. I immediately turned around and went back to the shop. By the time I got back, the rear brake was smoking. They had to replace the caliper again, and the rotor too.

Sounds like you got lucky so far.

After replacing two leaky calipers a total of 6 times removing and installing I can proudly say I can put the spring on by just using hands. The trick is to bow the spring outward and catch it in the edge of the lever. Then take a pair of vise grips and get the cable end secured into the stop. Then mash down the spring using hands to force it the rest of the way onto the lever arm.

^^What they said...avoid this shop!

An automotive door spring compressor works perfectly for removing and installing Fiero brake springs.

I just use a screwdriver to remove and reinstall the springs. My door spring compressor is too narrow to go around the e-brake springs.

Two votes for the screwdriver. Snaps them springs out or in with no problems whatsoever.

Let a few rounds off of the adjuster, and hands will work fine, on 88's and pre 88's. I have done both now.
