I have an 88 2.8 V 6 engine & T125 auto tranny mounted on a 2x6 wood assembly block, I got the T125 tranny loose and it pulled back about an 1/2 inch I can see the flex plate, but it feels like there is spring holding it from comming out(of course there is no spring) when I pull back there is resistence ,,I do not want to break some thing .I need the tranny & want to be carefull.
what is holding it ??

the engine tranny sitting on the form is on the ground
once I moved the tranny a 1/8 inch then it moved easily until l it moved back 1/2 inch, then resistance
the engine and tranny are both good ,I am giving the engine away and need to get it out of the yard ,, the to many motor parts Police are wise to me

Did you remove the dust shield from the bottom of the bell housing behind the oil pan? It won't clear the flex plate if it is in place. Normally, you'd take it off to access the bolts that hold the torque convertor to the flex plate and remove them, which allows you to leave the torque convertor in place in the transmission.
