I have to remove the driver side torsion bar for my engine install. Is it possible to remove only this one without first removing the passenger side bar? I really don't want to monkey with the passenger side bar because it is staying, but I don't want to cut a perfectly good torsion bar either.

So, is there some trick to it? I have the bolt removed and the bar is freed from its retaining bracket but is hung up under its opposite housing. It is also trapped behind the passenger side torsion bar (which I don't want to uninstall).

Thanks,
Blake

Get ahold of a Shop Manual for your year Fiero (or any year really) there is a step by step procedure to follow. STEP BY STEP. Yes, you can take off only one side, but you need the shop manual to see how it goes together. AND IT CAN BE DANGEROUS

When I removed only one side no amount of adjusting would make the decklid sit flush on the body, the side with the remaining torsion spring always stuck up above the body line. I suppose I could have slotted the decklid hinge more to allow for enough adjustment but seriously, one torsion spring will not hold up a bare decklid very well. A gentle wind will slam it closed.
