What's the benifit of having the 6 btm msd module on my fiero. Most of the car is stock and its a plug and play module with a msd coil. My question is if I want to remove the module wouldn't my car start if you simply plug the connectors from the engine back into the msd coil? And I've done that but my car isn't running when I do. Do you think a bad wire or coil could be to blame? Im having ignition problems on another post just thought id start a seperate posting to see if its a seperate issue but take a look at the other post here

A stock 2.8 sees no benefit from an MSD box. The only benefit you can get out of it is the multiple spark below 2000 rpm. But that simply ensures spark, not more spark.

The MSD coil though, is a nice upgrade. Hotter spark.

I had an MSD box go bad. There is no way to test it. It emulated a vacuum leak and cost me allot of money. Every mechanic I spoke to told me it could not possibly be the MSD box, but, when I unplugged it, my apparent vacuum leak disappeared.

It turned out there were loose solder points on the primary circuit.

I would not use one unless I was in a Turbo application, but, to each his own.

It came with the car hooked up but when I disconnect it it doesn't want to start do you think maybe the coil could have gone bad and the box is what's giving it any spark at all?

the BTM model of the MSD 6 series is a old work around for turbo charging.
is there a turbo installed? do you plan on installing one? the BTM model can retard the timing based on the boost.

No turbo setup on the vehicle and I really don't plan on doing anything with this engine. Personally if I can get the car to run without it hooked up id prefer that instead. It doesn't look like it had a turbo on it either so I couldn't tell you why its on the car other than looks

well, then you can most certianly disconnect it. will change nothing.
the MSD box does nothing for a stock engine, except ruin dist caps & wires.

if they installed it with the GM adapter harness (most do) - even better - it just simply unplugs, and you plug everything back to original, and job done.

and, the BTM model is a special unit, since it has the boost timing adjustment - and not available anymore. there are likely a few people who would buy it.

Bought an msd coil and put it in. While pulling the other one out I realized it wasn't a msd ignition coil. It was a blaster coil. Soooo that explains why when I plugged the connectors in it didn't do anything. And after plugging it in it fired right up but ofcoarse ill have to time it... again... good news is I now have something to sell :-) and to be honest im not looking to make much money off of this unit. What id like is my own timing light. I think that explains what I want for it includes the blaster coil too! It works! But im sure those who now how to tinker with these could use it better than me.
