Acceleration is stumbling and is most pronounced while in 2nd gear,
and feels like it is lacking power.

Timing is in between 8-10* btdc in base timing.

It has a new cap, rotor, wires, and plugs, icm, and distributor.

I think the problem is in the fuel injection system. or its lacking compression...

When you set the timing did you jumper A-B? Was the SES light flashing the entire time you were setting the timing? (It should have been)

Have you checked your fuel pressure yet?

when I originally set the timing, I'm sure the ses was flashing, I'm not sure now, I could have blown the light.
but I did notice it went into closed loop and open loop when I crossed a and b, and when I didnt.
(yes I set the timing with a and b jumpered)

I have not checked my fuel pressure yet, where should I be around when I check the pressure?

Do you get this rod knock when you push hard on the throttle at low RPMs? Are you sure you are not looking at engine knock? Engine knock happens at high throttle, lower RPM conditions. Releasing the gas makes engine knock go away.

The root cause of the engine knock, if that is what it is, is usually too much ignition advance.

Too much advance can also make the engine hard to start - where while cranking the engine "stops" and then starts back up

You can hear engine knock about seconds 3 - 5 in this one

Here's rod knock. Rod knock usually gets worse as the oil gets thinner

Its a constant knock, the timing was set in base with A-B jumped so its not timing, and its not detonation.

I had an experienced mechanic drop by and confirm my fears...

the car ate oil a week ago, and I was down three quarts (oil pressure was at 20lbs)... I filled it with HD-30 and now a week later it goes... its to be expected...

you could do a bottom end rebuild with the engine in the car. iv done it once. its alot of work tho. but it can be done. it probably be faster just to drop the engine and do it that way.

or you could go to the wreckers and buy another duke.

by the way. did you change your fuel filter on the car? maybe it was clogged up

Fuel filter was new.

I'm thinking its in the fuel delivery somewhere... anyways, i'm on to the next project, this one is on the backburner... again...

I'm going to rebuild the engine myself, so it'll get gone through. and it'll be better =] like my 88 coupe last year.
