I had this same issue when I bought mine. The PO wedged a comb under the overhead light and used the end to hold up the visor -__-
There was also tape on the metal shaft which would spin freely in the bracket. As previously mentioned, if that is the case with yours then using something around the screw won't solve your issue. I got lucky and found a fiero in the junkyard so I just got a new metal bracket and all was well. I'd suggest going to a local junkyard and looking for one since I would assume GM used the same part for many cars and it should be an easy find. $2 will save you a lot of headaches involving tape and combs
