I just replaced the ignition module on my 2.5 and realized there was no shield under the old module. I have
sheet gasket material and was thinking of using it as a heat shield. Any thoughts on this?
Would a coating of dielectric grease be sufficient? Should I get a replacement shield and be done with it?

There is no "heat shield" for the ICM.. Yes..You need to use dielectric grease... make sure it the white stuff, and not the clear crap..

87-88 Does have a shield.

Get replacement shield.
Try GM parts
Try Junk yard. Any VIN U or R will work. For List, see cave, dis replacement. Try later year, GM updated tray with fins.

Or make one... Doesn't have to be exact.

dielectric grease is ok... Heaksink compound (White, silver, and gray common colors ) is better. get it at radioshack, maybe Best Buy, or any computer place.

See my cave, dis in 4 cyl engine section.
