I put a set of 1.6's on my stock 2.8 several years ago. Did it along with a new set of valve seals all around.
After a couple hundred miles she "smoothed" out so nice. (Must've knocked out all the carbon from the leaky valve seals). Feels a lot peppier to me. Considered it a poor man's cam upgrade.
