I'm working on the interior of our little project and am wondering about the seat belts. They don't seem to have the ability to "lock" when I simulate a sudden stop. They allow travel all the way to the end without stopping. I assume they are malfunctioning and need to be replaced. Has anyone else had this problem? How hard is it to replace both seat belts?

I think the Fiero was designed before the innovation of modern safety features (no airbags, no locking seatbelts... the list goes on and on...).

Though I wonder if they were implemented in limited numbers because occasionally they will lock up on my Formula...

I'm probably being no help here, just pure speculation.

Well, they should lock but I'm not sure how. More modern belts lock with fast extensions and/or high g-forces like heavy breaking or impacts. The Fiero belt should do all but possibly the fast extension lock. So you may have to take it out and jam on the brakes at 10 mph, see if they lock then.

I tried this and, thankfully I was not going over 20 MPH, because I almost slammed my head into the steering wheel. Hmmm...sounds like I may have to be on the hunt for new seat belt assemblies...

Simple cleaning the mechanism will help.

Use search... Clean seatbelt been cover recently.
