What do I need to swap a 4th gen firebird dash into a fiero I've seen it on google an fell in love with it can I use the fiero harness to make it work or do I have to take harness also I also plan on using the stock steering wheel instead of the one in the 4th so I don't have to deal with the airbag set up

...has links to other areas...

...you use the Fiero's harness, but you have to: 1) cut the plug ends off and install the Firebird one for the gages, or, 2) talk to jscott1 about a plug and play harness adaptor.

Be prepared to spend a lot of time doing this - I have spent a good 2+ months worth working on mine every night for 4-5 hours to get it where mine sits now. Lots of test fittings and cutting (didn't want to cut too much). Never mind building the custom parts.

Good luck...

WOW! Awesome job! Ever had anyone say "I didn't know a Firebird dash just bolted right into a Fiero? That would be a compliment and also probably annoying.

Hey Mickey_Moose,

Not to hijack the thread but , how difficult is the "cluster swap alone"?

(I have a replica with a 355 style dash that I'm starting on now and I keep wondering if I can get a Firebird / Camaro cluster behind the 355 cluster housing.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but does anyone know what aesthetic changes if any GM made to the 4th gen Firebird interior over the course of its life?? Are there any subtle differences between the Trans Am and regular Firebirds?

What I know:

console is different - later year more square and have cup hold on the rear (IIRC jscott1 has this style in his car) - I *think* this happened around 97, but not sure.

gages are different - also different between V6 and V8 (I seem to recal that there are also differences depending on which V8) models (never mind the US/Canadian versions) - 97+ gages have the digital odometer and fuel gage is ECM controlled, 98+ gages are all ECM controlled - plus other cosmetic changes throughout the years.

filler piece between dash and windshield - there is a slight difference in the curve between the passenger airbag and the gages, but have no idea the year that this change takes place. As such, there is probably a difference in the dash pad itself. I had to modify the filler part I have to match the curve of the dash - I was lucky that is was nothing a file couldn't fix (vs. having to fill).

There is a black dash pad - but this is really rare. I have a wrecker near me that only deals in the F-body cars and he only has 1 black dash in the several thousand that he has in stock.

Door panels are either cloth or leather inserts.

About all that I found out from when I was digging up the parts for mine...

Thanks!! I'm actually looking for a black dash/interior. Do you know if the guy is willing to do a long distance transaction? I really want a black Firebird interior in my Fiero. After doing a little more homework, I've also decided that I want to use a '98-'02 dash.

He is not selling just the dash - you have to buy the whole interior as it is a complete package (doors panels, seats (front and rear), carpet, dash, console, etc). He does ship around the world, but you would be better off to buy a gray one and dye it.

You can't use the 98+ gages in the Fiero without the ECM unless you figure out the communication that is happening and build some kind of converter module.
