'84 Indy
2.5L 4 cylinder
4 speed

I have an understanding of the blown-idiot-light-and-the-alternator-doesn't-work issue. My problem is that I can't find a Charge Indicator light in the instrument panel. I took the back off of the instrument panel and put a drop light behind it and can easily see all the icons and there's just not a battery icon. I do have a volt meter under the tach that has a battery icon just above it but as far as I can tell there's no place for a light behind it. What am I missing?

I haven't tested that brown wire at the alternator because I don't know what to look for. Is there a particular volts to look on that wire during cranking?

Thanks
Bryan

I believe on the 84's the battery light is shared with the oil light. should have 12v on the connector.

84 Does Not have a Alt Lamp.

84 uses a resistor to give alt it's "lamp" voltage.
Check C500 and alt's side plug. Then read alt sense in my cave charge & start section

See 84 section at http://www.fieronews.net/fusion/downloads.php

Isn't the voltage for the sense wire also fed from the computer? I'm upgrading my car to a newer style alt and will be running a warning light to the dash and not using any of the stock wire harness except for the feed to the battery.

I found that the problem was corroded contacts on the Alternator Plug. I cleaned them up and the Alternator is happy again.

Thanks Ogre for the info that there's no idiot light to check.
