Every three months or so I have to buy a new battery because they keep dying on me. I've done the AMP meter test and with the car off and the door closed it only pulls around .02 amps. Can anyone tell what the heck is going on here? I drive a stock 88 GT.

0.02 amp?
alt or wires to it is likely bad.

Test your alt. Over or under volt is bad for battery.

See my cave,
wire service in general electrical section
alt sense and CS alt in charge & start section

I'm not sure, haven't had it tested yet. I had to jump it last night to get it to start, but once it started I was able to drive around with no problem. I drove around for about an hour and once I got home, I let it sit for about 20 minutes and when I tried to start it again, it was completely dead.

Thanks Ogre, I started researching this problem using your site. I guess I'll look further into it.

what year? if 84-86 check headlight motors. let it sit for a few hours and feel the knobs on top see if they get warm to the touch. also listen for "clicks" coming from the front compartment. i had one motor go bad and never knew until 3 battery's later. it would kill one in a day or two. try leaving them unplugged at night and after every use see if it changes anything. if they're bad you can rebuild them or upgrade to the 87-88 style and be problem free(ish)

Thanks for the advice, but I drive an 88. I do however have a problem with my new headlight motor over tightening themselves to where I have to open the hood, almost every time I want to turn my lights on, and physically turn the knob on the top of the headlight motors just to get it loose enough that the motor can take over from there.

Your drain needs to be less than 50 mA or 0.050 A.

Start by disconnecting all the wires on the power distribution posts near the battery below the C500 wiring junction block. Using the amp meter see which wire is drawing too much current. Once you have that figured out connect the others and see what is left off.

You need to get the problem narrowed down. Right now the entire car is suspect. Poking around at items might find the problem. It might also create new problems.

Eliminate a large number of suspects first and the task will be much easier.

Remember to disconnect the battery before you start working on the power distribution post and it's wires.

HL motors need lube.
See cave, Gen 2 HL motors in lighting section
also see https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/107536.html for thrust bearing images

You HL module, HL Switch keeping HL on, radiator fan or fan relay, may have intermittent... Unplug C100 to eliminate front area.
