I am thinking about what happens if I get a "flat". The owner's manual says that the full-size wheel and tire fits in that trunk behind the engine compartment. Is that really true? Would it be true for one of the rear tires on the 1988 GT--it's a bigger size than the tires on the front? Maybe there's something wrong with my eyes, but that trunk looks hardly big enough to swallow one of those GT rims with a tire on it.

only way to find out is take your tire off and plop it right in :P
it will fit. im sure thats why the trunk is so deep so you could put the tire in there incase of a flat.

Keep in mind that if the tire is flat, it isn't going to require as much space as if it were fully inflated.

Yep, trunk designed to hold the stock tire, inflated or otherwise.

yes, the trunk will hold the tire but that means anything that won't fit back in the trunk will have to go up front where the space saver tire was or on the passenger's lap.

You'd be surprised how many people can't figure out to move the stuff from the back to the front.

When I got my new tires put on, I took all 4 of them to the shop in my Fiero. One in the trunk, and 3 stacked up on the passenger seat. Tight fit, but they all fit.
