The other night when I got home just as I was getting ready to shut the car off a rather strange thing happened. All the lights in the car dimmed, the engine stumbled and then a few seconds later everything was back to normal so I shut it down and went in the house. The next couple of days everything worked fine and then tonight when I get in the car and turn the headlights on I noticed that the left headlight did not come up and I didn't have any dash lights. I popped the hood and gave it a tap and it went up but upon further inspection I didn't have any tail lights either so I shut her down and grab a flash light and started checking fuses. Sure enough one of the 25 amp fuses was blown but every time I replaced it it instantly blew again telling me I have a dead short somewhere. At this point I also noticed that the left side headlight motor was extremely hot, hot enough that I could almost burn my fingers on it.

Anyone ever have this problem?

Edit to add that this is a 85GT with a 87-88 headlight upgrade in it.

Two separate problems. See Ogre's cave re headlight motor.

Taillight fuse problem - yep you have a problem. Try unplugging the connector on C500 that goes to the tail lights and see if the problem is cleared. At C500 there are two plugs, one that goes to the engine, and a second one that connects the rear harness to the body harness. It is clear by looking at it which is which.

Heh, heh, heh, not so fast. It appears that the left side headlight bucket was getting hung up on the wiring harness that goes to the front left side marker light, shorting out the light causing the fuse to blow and hanging up the motor causing it to overheat. 2 problems caused by one event. Strange how that happens huh? I moved the harness out of the way, that eliminated the short and stopped the fuse from blowing but the damage was done to the headlight motor and it's now dead. Rebuildable or is it time for a new one? If I have to replace the motor can I use any 2nd gen one?

Maybe Module is bad to. Rare but it does happen.
It can fry its MOSFET.
Yes, See my cave, Gen 2 HL motor. Fix module links is in it.
Or just replace it. Some are too fried to repair.

Switch motor... If left motor is really bad then it won't work in module's right channel.
