I am at work so unfortunately I can't post a picture, but here's the problem: I had a leaking trans output seal on the pass side axle. Pulled the seal to replace and found the bearing toast. Got a new bearing based on p/n of bearing I removed (HK4012). When I removed the bearing (in pieces), I also removed a hardened steel ring that functions as an inner race for the needle bearing. I cannot for the life of me find anyone who knows what this ring is or how to get it. The new bearing inner diameter is 1.5748" but the shaft (differential output) is actually 1.503". The ring I removed is about .0325" thick, so doubling it + shaft dia(1.503"), gives me 1.568" of the 1.5748" I needed, allowing for .0068" for oil. This seams about right to me but apparently the ring is made out of un-obtainium. Anybody ever come across this problem before? I know that replacing the output bearing without the sleeve, inner race, or whatever is a recipe for disaster. Thanks, Chris.

1fatcat. I think you might be on to something. Does anyone have a different part number for the bearing? I used HK4012, but perhaps that was wrong in the first place.

Looking at that differential, I would say that was a "speedy sleeve" that was installed long ago to repair the damaged bearing surface of your differential. You probably have the right bearing, but a damaged differential, so you need a new diff. You should make sure the diff cover isn't damaged from the spun bearing too.
Edit: Does the thin sleeve fit nicely into the new bearing? If so, it's a speedy sleeve.

ya that diff is hurt...non hd's dont have a bearing they have copper/brass/bronze (one of them they are gold) bushing no needle bearings in them.. i would get a diff and a new diff cover.

Thanks again to everyone for your inputs. I spoke with Morad and have ordered another differential. They say that the sleeve is pressed on at the factory and practically never fails. I guess I was just lucky enought to be the exception to the rule.
