Do I need to find a spring compressor to take the door spring out, or is it part of the hinge assembly?
I am not trying to fix hinges, I just want to swap a door out.
Is it pretty straight forward? Remove the hinges and put on the new one?

Yes, the spring is part of the lower hinge assembly. Be aware that if you're removing the hinges from the car rather than the door from the hinges, that one of the three bolts on the lower hinge is accessed from inside the car. You'll have to pull away a sticky tar paper that covers the access hole once you pull back the carpet.

Bloozberry is correct, you do not need to remove the door hinge springs in order to replace a door. The hinge comes off as a complete assemble. I normally just leave the hinges attached to the door. The only time you usually need to mess with the spring is to replace a worn hinge pin, brass bushing, or detent roller. These are available in Motor Might Help Line as kits.

Can you do it by yourself? Yes.
