I've had my car for almost 3-years, and the map light won't work. I've put new bulbs in, and still nothing. The fuses are good, and the dome light works fine, but not the map lights. Any one got some ideas??? Bye-the-way, my car is an '86 late-run GT, Getag 5-speed. It has the sub-woofer with the impedance control switch in the over-head dome-light / map-light base. My sub-woofer works, but was never hooked-up to the cd changer / radio.

Here is the electrical diagram. What you need to do to start is to use a 12v test light (recommended) or Volt meter to see if you have power on the orange wire. Then see if you have proper ground on the white wire. Then look at switches ect.

The way the power is connected bulb to bulb is suspect. The way the wires connect is they are just 'pushed' into the metal connections. Also look at the ground point in the light to light the reading lights.

Here is a question - the dome lights (top center two only) are supposed to light with the middle switch (if you have one). Do the dome lights work with the door/dash switch but not the center switch? If so then it most likely is a bad ground at the light. You see one side always has power. It's just if the other side gets grounded that the light comes on.

If you need more help let us know.

These lights are grounded with the two mounting screws furthest back on on the overhead console (under the lense). Usually, unscrewing and re-screwing them back in will fix the bad ground problem.
