MAT is the Manifold Air Temperature sensor on the can of the air cleaner.

Make sure it's plugged in

On the side of this

The thing I had posted before was the MAP. Your trouble is with the MAT. Most likely unplugged

disconnected battery and still on. but the car still runs like a champ but idles high when cold started. 2000 rpm high then it works its way back down to 1000 when at running temp. and my gauge on my dash for the temp is funky it fluctuates alot. never going over just going from whats looks like 140 to normal temp

Code 23 - MAT Low

Trouble Code 23 indicates that the Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) sensor is reporting abnormally low readings. When the air is cold, the thermistor in the sensor has a high resistance, which falls as the air charge warms.

Low readings indicate a possible bad sensor or open in the MAT circuit.

The conditions for setting this code are:

MAT reading is < -40 deg F (-40 deg C)

NOTE: A default MAT value indicating 82 deg F is used while Code 23 is present.

Typical thermistor resistance values are:

deg F deg C Resistance (ohms)

210 100 185
160 70 450
100 38 1,800
70 20 3,400
40 4 7,500
20 -7 13,500
0 -18 25,000
-40 -40 100,000+

Typical causes for this code include:

Defective MAT sensor
Open sensor ground circuit
MAT sensor unplugged
Dirty or corroded connection(s) at MAT and/or ECM
Open circuit between the ECM and the MAT sensor
Defective ECM

alright thank you very much. i guess i will just check my codes every couple of weeks to see if the codes have changed. and i will just have to stare at that SES light oh well. not like its is making a difference on the performance.

I don't suppose you were messing around with a 'cold air intake' eh?

btw, the stock can is ducted so cold air comes into it. A filter under the rear deck lid will suck in engine warmed air.

Oh. well currently i have the air canister off and the black rubber hose off and its just an open throttle body. i know its not the best for the engine to run on an open throttle body. but im painting the canister and im not driving it im just having it run in my garage with the tail pipes sticking out of the garage. Could the low temps and the open throttle body be the issue?. and im tapping off the throttle body when not in use so it dosent get crappy inside the throttle body and the upper intake manifold.

The missing Manifold Air Temperature sensor that is in your garage instead of your Fiero makes the ECM read the outside air temperature at -40 deg. Luckly the ECM is programmed to substitue 82 degrees when it sees the air temp so way out of wack. Of course since the air temp isn't 82, it still won't run quite right.

You could take the sensor off the can and plug it back into the electrical harness untill you are finished, and then put it back into the can like it is supposed to be.

That will make your code 23 go away.

Reset the ECM after reconnecting the MAT

MAT is Manifold Air Temperature sensor, MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor) is what is in the picture and the part you are describing. The MAT will be mounted on the air cleaner housing.

Guess I was just too slow tonight . . . . figures.

Did we win that game? - Remind me to come down there and kick your a** - swim meet or not. I can understand not watching the game, but to not know the score?!

Satin Black - Red makes it look like a circus

The Bears had nothing to gain by winning execpt to keep the Packers out of the playoffs. Usually a coach would play reserved and save his best players for the playoff games. The Bears played their starters all game to try and keep the Pack out. They didn't. And now were coming back to kick butt again.

Wire wheel on a bench grinder is a good way to clean most of the rust off. It won't get into the rust pores but it will get most of the rust off.

ALWAYS wear safety glasses when using a wire wheel. The wire pieces WILL come off and sooner or later one WILL hit you in the eye.

Fleet Farm has them. The braided ones work faster than just the regular ones.

The yellow safety glasses are the best

Thats down at the NAT in Madison?

I know a kid (grad student at Minnesota now) who swam on the state level for all 4 years. He swam for Ashwaubenon

Eric Matzke. His younger brother Nick is in school and swims also. Big swimming family. I was at the NAT to watch Eric swim

---

Oh wait - you guys have hair - that can't be at the NAT

UW Mad campus

Was totally weird there seeing all these guys in shaved heads. It makes it really hard to pick out who is who.
