I was wondering, if anyone could shed some light on this issue im having. Well I rebuilt my 2.8 motor and disconnected a cable at the top of the transmission. (not sure if its relevant but being as detailed as I can) so I could get the plug to the transmission free. it was part of the back side wiring harness. I've got the motor back in and everything connected. For some reason though I don't have my reverse lights anymore, Which is obviously a problem any time of day or night. Any ideas that can point me in the right direction? Oh and it is an automatic transmission. Thank you in advance. This forum has helped me since day five of owning my fiero when I had a bad rod knock 750+ mile plus from home. Ya'll are the best.
Auto trans or 5 speed? If a 5 speed you may have broke the wire from the switch on the top of the trans somewhere. If an auto it's in the selector switch on the top of the trans also.
Easy to test on the 5 speed. Just unplug the switch and jump between the two pins on the connector not on the transmission. With the key turned on the backup lights should light. If an auto you can jump also. You might make sure the connectors are plugged tightly.
Wires are Drk/Blu and Lt Green on both auto and manual.

Maybe or just might not be plugged tight. If you can identify the two wires colors above on the plug and jump them you can test the wiring from that point. You could also ohm the switch once you know which pins it is.
You might just replug it and see if that solves it.

I'll check that tomorrow, and see how it goes. I'll let ya know if that works or not. hopefully it does though. Backing up at night blind can be a bit of a challenge in these cars, with that long rear deck.
So with the car in a garage or backed up against a wall so you can see when the reverse lights are on, slowly move the shifter from park to reverse, tne N and then D. Do you see the lights come on sometime during the process? If so but not while in R, then your multi-switch is out of adjustment.
If it never comes on, then look at removing the connector from the switch and jumpering the blue to the light green and see if the lights come on then.
1. Place transmission shaft in "NEUTRAL" position. 2. Align flats in switch insert with flats on transmission shaft and push switch over shaft. 3. Loosely assemble bolts to transmission case. 4. Insert 2.34 diameter gage pin (or rounded shank end of a 3/32 inch drill bit) into service adjustment hole. (Reset Hole) Rotate the switch until the gage pin drops to a depth of 9mm. 5. Tighten attaching bolts to recommended torque. 6. Remove gage pin.
