With about 500 or more horsepower to the wheels? I may have as much as 700 hp to the wheels and need to upgrade the 17 inch BF Goodrich tires I now have on the car (A 1987 Fiero GT) because they died of old age waiting for me to finish this car. Any advice will be appreciated.I intend to use the car mostly on the street with some trips to the track,I only live about 10 miles from Atco Raceway.
Engine is in my signature vvvvvvvvv.

Nothing streetable will hook harder than the Mickey Thompson drag radials. Not BFG, not Nitto, not Hoosier or Goodyear. Nothing. That's why all the winners in all the drag radial classes are using the M/Ts.
235/60s would be an easy fit, just get a pair of Fiero GT crosslace 15x7s. A bit of work should allow the 255/60s instead.

Quoted for truth. Nothing better for a streetable tire that hooks. Only thing that has been on my car for 5 years now.

Also, I wouldnt dream of doing anything in a 17inch rim past 500whp.... This would mean a brake downgrade for you... but I highly suggest it as many of the M/T tires are not offered in 17s.

My bias ply 8.5/15/26 ET drags are by far the best street tire I have had on my car... Drag radials do not do much for me on the street other than let me turn better and make it home in the rain. When I make the 600+whp I cant even keep the slicks tied down on the street without doing a major burnout, and starting from a point where my converter will not flash really hard.... starting out in 2nd gear is impossible at any situation, I have had luck going wide open in 3rd at 90+mph and maintaining traction to 140. (its still a scary 3-4 seconds though).

My best bet so far has been starting in first gear, and pedaling it a bit when second gear comes in to lower the boost... it usually makes for a fun trip to 100mph and it does it fairly safely as long as you dont stay in it when 2nd gear hits.

I may end up trying a 10.5/15/26 ET drag radial this next year... but I am doubting it... ill let you know. My current plan is to upgarde to a 10.5/15/26 ET drag bias ply so I can try to "roll race" a bit easier.

I really like my 255/50/16 Mickey Thompsons ET Streets. I used my car as a daily driver with them before taking it apart to swap to auto.
