Trying to locate a pesky oil leak on my 88 coupe Iron Duke. So I bought a UV Pen light and 1 oz. of UV oil dye. Works great you can see where the leak is (oil pan on the ends). Now the guy at Advance Auto whom I do not put much stock in said he was glad that stuff was going in my oil and not his. Really? 1 little oz of petrolium based UV dye is going to kill my oil? Just wondering your thoughts on that.

The guy is an idiot. He is the one throwing around racial slurs with another customer one day. A real jackass.

I don't know that it would hurt anything, but when I was done finding the leaks I'd change it out just for piece of mind.

i use it at least once a week at work and tell customers to drive it and bring there car back in a couple days so i can look at it to see where leaks are. .. i could understand there being a problem with it if it was like alcohol or some kind of thinner.. ive even used it in diesels with 7,000 to 10,000 miles on used oil.. cant get much thinner then that really. if there were a problem with it it would have A dum dum warning label so they wont get sued over a blown engine.

If it was a problem to use it in oil then there would be no way that a dealership would ever use it or the manufacturers would ever authorize its use.

The factory service manual has instructions for UV dye use so it is very safe to use.
