I have the performance sound system which i am installing in my car. got the setup from a member. speakers, subbox, headunit(not from a pontiac) amp and harness.
I have replaced the sub as suggested by fierosound with the tang band speaker.
i have previously installed a CD deck from a 1999 pontiac grand prix. it works perfectly. i would like to retain this head unit with the perf sound.
so im testing the perf sound system setup. kinda just laying in the passenger seat to test the components. the previous owner of the system had wired up the radio adapter into the perf sound harness. I made no changes to the harness from what i recieved. plugged it into my 99 cd deck. all 4 corner speakers work, proper location and fade/balance. then i plugged in the sub. it just growls and grinds. seemingly incoherent sound.
I then switched over to the head unit i recieved with the setup and all works fine.
all the wiring looks the same between the 2 radios. Is there a problem between the 2 different radios as far as output or voltage or something?
I would like to use by 99 headunit as it is red, has a CD and is newer. the unit i got from the deal was not the proper head unit anyways, not from a pontiac. i also want to retain the perf sound system so that i have the proper slider and dont have to worry about adjusting the balance to make the sub work. i want it to remain an independant system from the other speaker.
EDIT: Forgot to mention. with my 99 CD deck in, as soon as i turn the radio on the sub speaker starts to growl. I dont mean key on but, car on radio off, turn on radio and as the CD start to spin up the sub is already growling with no sound coming from the other speakers. when the music starts from the rest of the sound system the sub continues to growl.
