I started digging into my 86GT today. The motor has been hacked up a bit, and I noticed the trans has a dipstick tube. It is a 4 speed car, but I didn't think the Fieros had a dipstick. Any way to tell what I have?

It's likely your original transmission. One local guy removed a plug in the transmission and found that the Getrag dipstick will screw into it. If your transmission has the reinforcement webbing around the axel seals and is a 3-piece case, then it's the 85-86 4 speed transmission.
You're right, the Fiero four speeds don't have an external dipstick. The oil level indicator is an integral part of the VSS. If you're not 100% sure that it's a four speed, I'm willing to bet that it's a Getrag, since they started installing them in late '86, and the Getrag does have an external dipstick. The best way for anybody to help you figure out what you have is for you to post a picture of it.

I almost have it pulled out. It has 4 speed cables on it, so I was thinking it came out of another car with a dipstick. After I get it out and cleaned up, I'll post some pics. Thanks for the input. Hopefully I'll figure out what this freak is.
Someone could have put the dipstick on a Fiero trans as it simply threads on. Post some pictures when you get it out and figure out what the gear ratios are. We will be able to figure out what it is from.

If it has those two cast ears for the cable mount that you can see right under the dipstick handle in Jefrysuko's post, then it's the leftover FWD transmission used in the 84's and either came straight from a Citation, or someone installed the dipstick into an 84 transmission. Only the 84 4 speed had those cable mounts cast onto the case.

Hey Phil - another Fiero with a history! I love a good mystery! We need pics.........
Edit to add: I know where there is a later model Fiero 4 speed - can probably get it for pretty cheap if you need one - or you can have this Izusu 5 speed back. Let me know what you need.

OK, here it is. Tell me what I have. I'm thinking it has the dipstick added, but I hate transmissions, and know almost zero about them. This car has been butchered up a little in the past and has been sitting for at least 3 years. (plates expired in 07). The muffler is patched and the cat deleted with a pipe. The wiring is a mess and engine partially taken apart for repairs that never were complete. Looks like someone threw a few parts at it, then gave up. Ass in air shot. Getting a little tight with two Fiero trailers and this pig in the garage,....
