as the title states... how many packages are there? I talked to a guy who "knows fieros" (15 or so years experience) he said it was all in the bushings... (being no real differences 84-88) I don't believe him...
I have an 87 GT that is more sensitive than what my 88 Coupe was... the 88 felt spongy diving over my rock driveway. while my 87 "bottoms out" over the same simple stuff...
I see there was a "heavy duty" option in the rpo coding when I looked it up..
any insight?

the 1984 through 1987 pontiac fieros shared the same suspension components of other GM cars... the rear suspension and powertrain was almost identical to that of the Chevrolet Citation and Pontiac Phoenix. the Fiero included rear tie rod ends attached to a steering knuckle although these were hard-mounted to the engine cradle and only used for maintaining the rear tire alignment. The front suspension was derived from the Chevrolet Chevette
the 1988 pontiac fiero had a suspension package the Pontiac engineers had designed with what they learned from the racing program. Up front were revised control arms and knuckles that reduced steering effort and improved the scrub radius. In the back, the old Citation parts were replaced with a real tri-link suspension with all new knuckles. This new suspension came with staggered wheel sizes on WS6 suspension equipped models, with 15-inch by 6-inch wide wheels up front and 15-inch by 7-inch wide wheels in the rear for improved handling balance and to offset the slightly increased front track that resulted from the improvements.
I've wondered about this as well and here's what I've found, though incomplete:
F41 Heavy duty, front & rear (special) (although I don't know what this is or if it was even a Fiero option) ??? Standard suspension package for '84-'87 Coupes & Sport Coupes Y99 Special Rally suspension package (standard on '84-'87 SE's, and '88 Coupe) WS6 Performance package, special, (standard on '84 SE's, '85-'88 GT's, and '88 Formulas, optional on '85-'87 SE's and Sport Coupes)
The problem is that for every model, the designation WS6, for example, meant different things. An '84 SE with optional WS6 was a differently tuned suspension than an '88 GT with WS6 as you can imagine. The same applies for every model in between too. They adjusted spring rates, bushing hardness, added sway bars on some but not on others, etc etc all under the RPO code WS6.

but the WS6 suspension package for the 88 GT and formula was just an improvement of the earlier suspension package on the 85-87 GT's and im not certain but the 84 with a WS6 suspension package could have just been the minor upgrade from the standard package that they had... because also in 1984 you could get a different transmission options.. you could get a performance muncie 4 speed with 4:10s and the eco 4 speed with 3:32s.. now but what i dont understand is the difference in the 1984 Fiero (7,099) , the 1984 Fiero 2M4 (62,070) , and the 1984 Fiero SE (65,671)
