What is the most common problem turning the exhaust manifolds glowing red in a short period of running time,? had the problem in a previous Fiero but don't remember what caused it or how I fixed it. Just did an engine swap and have not driven the car yet.Does the computer reset? Cat? Timing? EGR? Help!!

Most common issue with red hot glowing manifolds is ignition timing too retarded

Most common reason the ignition timing is too retarded is someone set it without jumpering A-B

The other thing that could cause the ignition timing to be too retarded is a slipped dampener ring

Note - a 'slight glow' that can be seen only at night isn't uncommon.

A big vacuum leak that's causing a lean condition. I ran into this on a previous build. My leak was the breather tube under the throttle body neck of the upper intake.

why is it that when my timing is at 18* the exhaust man. is fine, and the engine runs great, but when the timing is at 8* (factory spec) the manifold glows and the engine rides rougher?

My father & I recently rebuilt a stock 2.8L motor, gasket matched the intake & heads. Installed crane lifters and regrind cam to comp's 260H. We've set the timing to 10 degree's in diagnostic mode, runs about 20 degrees in ALDL mode. We first noticed BOTH manifolds glowing during timing the motor...

I've had my transmission rebuilt, put all new parts in the suspension and drivetrain and exhaust, got it all put back together and took it for a short test drive of maybe a half mile, not even long enough for the engine to fully warm up. I'm still burning off paint, oil, grease etc. from working...

I have a 2.8l v6 4 speed. New motor just put in. The exhaust manifolds are glowing orange. Is this a cause from a vacuum leak or timing isnt right. I know the timing isnt right but when i get it right will they still glow?

I've searched here and many other forums, as well as the general internet, and none of the resulting matches seem to be able to descirbe what might be wrong with the problem I'm having. Not sure about the OP, but the behavior on my 2.8 with the insane EGTs I'm seeing aren't easily explainable by any of these.
