I've got a few web pages in my favorites but I'm just feeling that I'm not finding the best places. I'm just getting started with this 3800 swap into my 88 so I'll need just about everything. So I was hoping I could get some feed back on the right places to buy from.
thanks

I have done many 3800 swaps, and I have yet to buy anything specific to a 3800 swap. The local junkyard is the best place to get swap parts without a doubt.

Post an ad on Craiglist for a 3800 SC engine. Really, it cant hurt. That is how I found mine. Just saw another one locally for $800. It was the whole car, the tranny was going but the engine was good. The nice thing about purchasing the engine while its in the car is you know whether it works or not.
thanks for the replies but I should have been more clear. sorry. I have the engine. Actually, I have the donor car. A 97 GTP. I'm looking for the mount, to relocate the Alt, and power steering bypass. Flywheel, Exhaust. About the only thing I can do on my own is the wiring. I've ordered a fuel pump and that's it. I've looked at West Coast Fiero and a couple other sites but like I said I'm worried that I haven't looked around enough. Again, any pointers to sites would be great. thanks

I have yet to find a vendor that sells those parts in a way that makes it a better option than just sourcing/making the mounts yourself. With the right parts from the junkyard, you can do everything mounting and axle wise, the wiring harness requires nothing if you have the donor harness, the low mount alt has been manufactured by numerous shadetree's (and it is not even a required mod).
Seems that everyone that orders parts from vendors ends up waiting 2x longer than they want, and paid 2x what they are worth.

From what I've found so far I would have to agree about the price. I'm not sure, though, that I can find the stuff I need in a junkyard. The front mount for example. I tried cutting up the one from the doner car and it came close. If I had a welder I think I could do it but I don't. I want to mount the Alt down low and I can't imagine finding part for that in a junkyard. The flywheel I think you'd agree is an item you need to purchase. I haven't got to the hoses yet but I expect that will take a lot of digging to find ones that work.
front motor mount from a Pontiac Transport mini van will work (search on here for the pic) You don't HAVE to relocate the alt. a little notch in the deck lid will work. Use the transmission that comes with the motor and no flywheel needed. If you go with a standard trans, THEN you need a 89 camaro flywheel cut down to .840

good note on the transport mount. I'll check it out. I think I prefer to move the Alt. If i do I can see and easy way to add the top mount. It is a standard and I know about the flywheel. I haven't found anyone that can turn one so I may need to buy one turned. I also wasn't sure but does that flywheel allow me to use the stock clutch and pressure plate? I have new ones.

98 camaro/fbody flywheel. You can get one at any parts store on the planet just about, or search car-part.com. You will not want to use any sort of stock clutch either. You are going to be delivering 3x the torque that a stock clutch is designed for.
Moving the alt down can be done with some creativity, and even more so with a welder. On the welder note, you can get a cheap welder for under $100 from harbor freight. It wont do anything overly pretty or thick, but it will burn metal together at least, and it will still make your project significantly cheaper than buying prefabbed.

I actually like the idea of owning a welder but I know nothing about them. The last time I played with one was back in high school..
So the new stock clutch wont work? I think your saying it'll fit but not hold up to the torque. I was hoping to save that money but if it doesn't work it doesn't work.
As for welding, I would say you get better with practice. Read a book or two and watch some youtube videos. You could also take a course at a community college or something along those lines. Buy yourself a welder that you think you will be happy with. There is some interesting setups on ebay for a decent price. I don't know about the quality but you can get an Arc, mig, tig, and plasma cutter all in one for under a $1000. This could be an option if you are creative and you want to make stuff that you couldn't before. You will end up using more than you think.
When you get a clutch get one rated for at least 100 more tq than you are going to start with. Once you start modding this engine the power level goes up fast.

Something like that would be a good starter welder. It gives you the ability to go from flux core type welding to gas welding if you ever wanted to get a bit more serious.
Sell a man a fish, and he will eat for a day, teach a man to weld, and he will build a fishing boat.
I was orignally asking for places to buy parts and I think I've been talked into buying a welder and making my own. I wonder how the wife will respond?

The welder will serve many purposes on the 3800 build. (I just finished installing mine.) You can make engine mounts with it, the alt brackets (I used some scrap steel), the exhaust, and I also did my dogbone mount. If you figure in the cost of all that the welder easily pays for itself.

yeah, why buy your clothes at k-mart when you can get them at goodwill! lmao!!
on the topic tho, I found wcf a decent source of swap parts, there very slow, and not too much in the way of technical help, but as long as your not holding your breath, and you have an idea on how this stuff goes together, there just fine as a vendor!

Just watch out for the scalpers that sell 80K mile 3800SC engines for $2000+. You can buy an entire Grand Prix, Impala or Bonneville 3800 wreck for less than half that and you'll have most of what you will need.. If you wish to go the prefab brackets/mounts route, WCF, Fierox and purpleeign are good parts sources.

ya, I've got the welder and auto darkening helmet in My Cart ready to go. But before I pull the trigger I'm hoping, now I've signed up to get junk mail from them, that I'll get a coupon in email.
