I've noticed at some of the car shows that some of the door & rear window glass "appear" to have a deeper tint, excluding the film overlays.

I was at the bone yard today and stumbled across another one with the deeper "looking" tint. So I jotted down some info & came home and compared that info with what was on my glass. Maybe someone can figure this out. No,, I'm ahead of you. The code sticker on the fender was gone.

(Bone yard Fiero)

1986 Cpe manufactured date 11/1985

WINDSHIELD
PPG / Sunshade Solex Duplate
Laminated Safety Float
AS1 25 48
DOT 18 M57
W1013

DOOR GLASS
Soft-Ray
Safety [LOF] Flo-Lite
??-? YY
Solid Tempered
DOT 15 M75

BACK GLASS
The pic I took was not readable. Too much reflection.

My Fiero 1986 SE

WINDSHIELD
Shaded Soft-Ray
Safety [LOF] Flo-Lite
AS1 7
Laminated
UY
DOT 15 M20

DOOR
Soft-Ray
Safety [LOF] Flo-Lite
AS2 AY
Solid Tempered
DOT 15 M75

BACK GLASS
Soft-Ray
Safety [LOF] Flo-Lite
Solid Tempered Heated
A Y
DOT 15 M8 1

So far I figured that LOF is Libby Owens Ford & PPG is Pittsburgh Plate Glass.

Is the difference just a manufacturing quality or was there an option for the glass type other than heated rear?
I found this link but it doesn't give me the answer .

I know you boys have the answer. Thanks

I cant' say with certainty that there was an option for different glass from the factory, but I've replaced a fair bit of Fiero glass in the last couple years and know that in the aftermarket glass there is a variety of different tinting options. Perhaps that is what you are seeing since it's quite likely that any car at this point will probably have at least some of the glass replaced, especially the windshield.

In other, older vehicles, an air conditioned car usually came with tinted glass, where a non-A/C car did not.
Not sure if that's the case with Fieros or not.

My 87 Fiero started out as a complete stripper (except T-top). I think it has all the original glass as it was a very low mileage car. The car did not come with AC. All windows are clear with no tint at all. Even the top of the windshield is clear. My SE parts car had AC and tinted windows all around.

It's looks like the factory did offer two choices for glass afterall. According to one set of RPO codes I have, it looks as though:
AAA is the code for standard glass, and
A01 is for "Window, deep tinted all, Soft Ray"

Further supporting this, the P book lists different part numbers available for clear or tinted glass (although I'm not certain why there is a different part number for 84-86 and 87-88... I thought they were the same):

p/n 20676376: 84-86 windshield glass clear (less antenna)
p/n 20676378: 87-88 windshield glass clear (less antenna)
p/n 20479012: 84-86 windshield glass tinted (less antenna)
p/n 20676379: 87-88 windshield glass tinted (less antenna)

p/n 20439138: 84-88 RH door glass clear
p/n 20439139: 84-88 LH door glass clear
p/n 20326124: 84-88 RH door glass tinted
p/n 20326125: 84-88 LH door glass tinted

Okay guys I'm back.

Thanks for all that info. So my eyes were not deceiving me.

I would like to have a deeper tint on my back glass to help keep tall vehicles from putting me on Broadway. Some of that privacy glass would be nice.
Anyone know if you can order a Fiero rear glass with privacy or near privacy tint?

I have the heated glass also and would like to keep it that way.

The Fiero at the bone yard has a good back glass and they said they charge 45 bucks "pre-pay" for a U-Pull it windshield. So I figure a rear glass may be had a bit cheaper. They even supply the piano wire, coat hangers and lube.
