I have 1988 pontiac fiero gt with the getrag 282 5-speed and i need to put in a new clutch master cylinder... Im figuring if i can get any tips or knowledgable things i should know about it to help me out that would be amazing before i just go in blind and do it tommorow...it doesnt seem that hard i think the biggest problem i am going to have is with the bleeding procedure.. i know there is a bleeder valve on the slave cylinder but was just wondering if i could pedal bleed the air out like i did my brakes because i dont have a bleeder tool and i dont really have the money or time to buy it right now.. also im thinking right now that the hard line connected to my master cylinder is sealed and probably frozen on my master cylinder... this happened to me in changing the brakes so i am probably going to have the same problem but could i possibly heat it up to get it out or would that be a bad idea... if anybody has any suggestions or links to something that would great... thanks guys

Heating it could be bad, especially if there's significant moisture in your fluid. If there is, and depending on what the fluid you have in the line is rated at, it could boil if you heat it too much.

The best way to bleed it, is probably to use the gravity bleed method, and make sure you get new fluid flowing all the way through the system, from the master to the slave. Just lift the front higher than the rear, and make sure that you don't let the reservoir get below the minimum line on the master. Just keep going front to back, checking the fluid coming out, and refilling the master, as needed.

It depends on how you do it. But it will probably take about the same amount of time either way. If you don't have someone to help you, the gravity bleed is probably less work. If you do the pedal bleed though, this is the proper procedure: http://www.v8archie.com/arch4.htm

DO NOT pump the pedal up like you do for the brakes. It doesn't do anything, and will just scatter the air molecules, requiring you to do more work to get them bled out all the way.

You don't have to go in "blind". Service Manuals ARE available for free download http://www.fieronews.net/fusion/downloads.php
