It looks like I'm going to need both a new slave cyl, as well as a new throwout bearing / arm and whatever else for my 5-Speed getrag. I'm wondering however, that if I'm going to end up doing this anyway, why I wouldn't want to just go ahead and convert it completely to hydraulic while I'm at it.
I've got a brand new Clutch Master Cyl that I'm installing, and I have brand new clutch lines. Can I not just get the entire hydraulic clutch set-up from the later 5-Speed getrags, install it in my getrag, and then directly connect the hose(s)?
Thanks guys!!! I'd really like to find out before I go buy parts.
What are you asking ? It "ALREADY IS COMPLETELY HYDRAULIC". a master cylinder, lines, a slave cylinder. I don't thing it can get any more "Hydraulic" than that.

Well, it's hydraulic from the master to slave clutch cyl... but then the slave cyl activates a manual clutch arm and throw-out bearing.
The newer style 5-Speed getrags have a hydraulic throw-out bearing that eliminates the need for the manual clutch arm. All you do is basically attach the line from the clutch master cyl to the hydraulic throw-out bearing. There-by eliminating the slave cyl and all the mechanical parts. The only thing manual at that point is actually the clutch pedal in the car!

Your post made it sound like you were asking about the stock Fiero Getrags. If you have a newer FWD Getrag to put in, and you want to do that, I don't see any particular reason to go one way or the other. I don't think you can just convert the Fiero Getrag to the HTOB as easily, though, if that's what you're asking?

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm asking. Is it possible? I already have a Fiero Getrag. I'm doing a conversion and don't currently have a slave cyl, and will end up needing a new throw-out bearing anyway. So... since I have to replace the throw-out bearing anyway, I was wondering if it was possible to just change out the throw-out bearing with one that's hydraulic. From what I understand, you can just swap them out? But... that's what I wanted to ask here first just to confirm.
I figured why spend the money on inferior parts when I can just go with upgraded parts and have less "stuff" to deal with.
Those types of Getrags that had that type of internal slave had the bell housing cast to accept that type of slave. Best would be to find that bell housing and slave and see if a machine shop can machine your case half to accept it. I would have my doubts on this but you never know.

Thanks Rodney, just responded to your email. I knew you were the getrag expert, so I hope you don't mind me e-mailing you.
Yeah, I figured if it was just a very simple swap of parts, it would be simple as anything... but I guess it isn't so I'm just going to go with stock parts. No big deal...
If it were me, I'd much rather have the slave cylinder "OUTSIDE" the bell housing, that way if there's ever a problem, you don't have to pull the engine out. just my preference.
