/\ Thats my favorite hood scoop thread. I would not recommend doing ANY fiberglass work where professional paint will be laid. In my experience, fiberglass doesnt take too kindly of any other fiberglass...

I used that thread to make my hood scoop last year. I really like the way it came out but like grkboy707 said fiberglass doesn't like other fiberglass. I know what he means now. Over time, mine has separated a bit (new fiber from hood) so I had get a little more resin in there to stick it back again. I think if you rough up the surface well it would be better but I am no expert since this was my first fiberglass experience.
1) De-wax before starting work. 2) You have to use materials MADE for (or compatible with) SMC fiberglass. Regular bondo & polyester resin doesn't stick as well as specific products. 3) On any area you 'glass to, grind with 24 grit disc for max adhesion. Those three simple rules & you should have something that will last. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
Fear of heights is illogical. Fear of falling, on the other hand, is prudent & evolutionary.

Regular bondo will stick to polyester resin won't it??
I used regular bondo on some parts like headliner and other
parts that shouldn't be under much stress and am now hoping
they are going to hold up?? Thanx Ray
Yea regular bondo will stick to fiberglass parts made with polyester resin, if you grind the surface. It's just that SMC has a built-in mold release agent, so it takes special products to stick well to it. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
