Lotsa work, probably will affect the rigidity of the spaceframe, why would you want to?

I want it down to just the metal there. need to do some welding and cutting in that area. He said to come back when all fire hazards are removed from the area.

If you just need to remove the hardboard cover it is 3 screws above the ECM, remove interior B-pillar panels, and then there are just two "christmas tree" fasteners per side a few inches from the bottom of the panel.

Duh, I misunderstood. I thought (obviously) that you wanted to remove the metal ledge that is UNDER the interior trim panel.

Mine had 9" holes cut into the metal there. I used pop rivets to attach metal back in there. No welding required. I put a sealer, black trim adhesive, on the metal before mounting it all up. I also put a bit over each rivet end to prevent any leaks. Then remounted the firewall cover.

Just sitting there not mounted yet

The holes are welded, did a decent job too if you ask me, but i'm no professional.

Holes look like a good thing to have -- if sealed right -- to get to the rear - I mean front - plugs!!

josef644, his holes are in the lower area where the second firewall is. What you posted has them higher up on the firewall where it's only a single layer.



You can see here where I cut the front firewall out but the rear is still intact. The OP's car, the previous owner cut through both firewalls. I suspect he is having the rear firewall repaired.

Here's a pic of how the enclosures the OP showed during construction turned out. I still need to do a little more work to the amp mount. There is a few things I'm not happy with, but it will be fixed in time.

Oh, the things I'm not happy with was how the amp mounted to the console. It wasn't very sturdy. I have since mounted a piece of wood in front of the ECM and mounted the amp to the wood, I just need to get it centered up a bit better. I also want to clean that part up some, maybe some carpeting on the wood, or textured fleck paint. Use some spray foam to fill in the gaps around the amp a little more shape it and recover the console. The woofer enclosures, I love the way they came out. It's just the amp part I want to do a little more work on.

yes, this is where most cut into the firewall for extra space.
and - this also shows one of the major "fire hazards" - the fuel fill hoses.
not just a fire hazrds - but a explosion hazard

Yeah that's why I took a picture of the drivers side. Specifically to show the fuel lines so others that do it will be as careful as I was to not hit them.
