I have a customer that came in with an 84, and it will start but dies off as it is running extremely rich. The injector is dumping fuel like none other after it starts. The fuel pump is original, and I havent tested fuel pressure yet. They even tried a whole other throttle body and it does the same thing. Any ideas?

Strange. Only a few possibilites that I can think of.

glitch in ECM that is holding injector current constant. Try swapping a known good one.
return line is plugged

Is it held open constantly? Or is it pulsing?

If it's pulsing at all, check the coolant temp sensor.
If it's open constantly, it's possible that the injector driver is shorted, holding it open.

Its pulsing, but shooting fuel that you would need at WOT. They put in a brand new computer and I checked the part number and its the correct one. Its weird. I am going to do a fuel pressure test on it this afternoon when I get some time.

Test ECM?
Use a Noid light instead of injector.
Scan ECM...
check ECM thinks have low volt. If ECM thinks it has low volt... use a DMM at ECM to test.
TPS angle = real throttle angle. (0% = idle)
ECM Coolant temp is to cold. Very Likely Problem. If so, they don't make the old sensor... Need new sensor, wire connector, and solder the splice to keep from rework. see cave, sensor quick ref, ECM section

Test the blue wire for injector for short. (Goes to White ECM connector, pin 8.) But is unlikely.

Replace ECM? See Quick Ref in L4 engine in Cave.

Test Fuel pressure? Maybe but also unlikely. 2 TBI regulator is unlike bad but return line to gas tank is block....

PROM error?! (from memory)

Got any bent pins on the chip?
Plugged in correctly? Make sure the notch on the chip is on the same end as the notch on the chip carrier.

Yes, PROM error. ECM is Limp Home mode.

PROM electrical is bad but not likely... Likely PROM is:
Missing.
PROM has bent/broken pin.
PROM carrier is loose/broken.
Socket bad or has "cold" solder connection in ECM. (Replace ECM.)
