Take it out and clean it.

Take out the resistor panel while you are at and clean in there so your car doesn't start on fire.

Haynes Page 126. Shows both the blower motor and resistor panel.

4 hex head screws for the blower motor, and one electrical plug

2 hex head screws for the resistor panel and one electrical plug

Accessed from under the front "hood". Incredibly easy.

Yeah, it's really easy to pull out the front. 3 10mm screws if I remember correctly.

Pull it, and the resistor pack out, and stick a step-down hose on a shop vac, and down inside to suck out any leaves/mice/etc... that may be stck in it.

When you take the resistor pack out you may find something like this.

I pulled the entire "squirrel" cage and motor out. Found it had been used as a mouse toilet! Scrubbed with a disinfectant, then had to use a small wire brush on a Dremel to clean the crud off the floor of the duct. (Use a face mask.) Had to put gloves on and reach back in the duct to get the remains of the nest out. (along with a couple little skeletons)

Using a coat hanger

An inside shot before vacuuming

After vacuuming

That should yield a minor improvement in airflow.

If you don't have too much brain damage, check the service manual.

If your car is driven a lot and don't spend much time in a garage it's a good idea after the leaves drop in the fall to get in there and clean it out. Too amny Fieros -and other GM cars- have gone up in smoke form those very hot resitors finding something to ignite in the blower. BTW: If you've never open it and cleaned it, don't leave anything in the car that you may want to lose in fire.

Thanks for the help.

Looks like some mice relocated the fire wall insulation and relocated it in the fan cage and vents. I had a good size pile of it pulled out.

It was was simple to pull the motor out, maybe to 30 min to pull it out clean and re-install.
I blew out all the vents with compressed air, and the after turned the motor on high and sprayed some Lysol in the air intake vents. Needed to vacuum and detail the interior, there was an lot of stuff blown into the interior.

Now off to the hardware store to pick up some mouse traps.
