Hey 4.9ers

Just an FYI. The cap on the short tube from the water pump let go the other day...grrrr. Anyhow, long story short, as I was repairing the problem I discovered that on the original vehicle (the Caddy) that a high temp 3/4" hose in that location. This may explain why the cap let go. Apparently the engineers thought the temp at that location needed a higher temp hose (green silicone hose from Murrays #26242). Stuff is expensive ($11.99 per foot). So, I used 3 inches of hose, clamped it on the pipe, stuffed a bolt in the other end and clamped it too. That was a couple of hundred miles ago...so far, so good. So, be careful if you use stock heater hose.

I put a new water pump inlet on my engine. I had that cut off and welded up before hand. It isn't used on an 88.

...hmmm...I have been using the stock hose on mine for 5 years now so far with no problems - of course now that I have said that...
