I have a 86 gt 2.8 the tranny jerks in when backing up any thing to check or what would be a good tranny swap

check the fluid running and in neutral. if its low it could cause surges when pushing the throttle backing up .

i had a similar issue with my old bronco. when was the last time you changed the filter/fluid? my bronco had a few chunks of something that had gotten in via dipstick. looked full but the TQ was half empty.
