G'Morning, Guys....and Gals, too,

I intend to install an Ultra Start Model U1271M in my 5-sp '88 GT.

In preparation, I have read many, many of the remote keyless entry postings and remote starter postings and alarm postings. From what I have read, the best place to put the control unit is under the arm rest in the center console....there is room there and, allegedly, many of the wires required to make the installation run through the harness that runs in the center console beside the shift mechanism.

What I have NOT found, either here or in the FSM, is a listing of just which wires, and associated colors, are in that harness.

One posting claims that switched power, starter wire, parking lights, tachwire, and trunk release wire are part of the cable, but door trigger, door lock, and door unlock are not. If correct, this will help quite a bit.

Can anybody help me with a listing of what is in the harness in the center console? I tried looking up C203 and got lots of conflicting information and claims of errors....even on Rockcrawls site.

SO: Please help if you can!

I will do a full install thread once I have gotten all my data and ducks in a row!

TIA,
Larry

EVERY wire that runs from the dash to the engine runs through there. So yes every one you need is right there.

You do realize there is NO neutral switch on your tranny. You will have no way of preventing your car from starting in gear unless you rig up something. I'd thought about it but with no way of preventing a nasty mistake when pushing the button, I couldn't see installing one. I'd highly recommend that you work out some kind of switch arrangement that prevents the starter from activating unless both the parking brake is on, and the tranny is NOT in gear. Parking brake would be easy. Tranny you would have to add switchs - most likely to the shifter itself would be easiest.

Perhaps there are pics on here of someone who has done the same!

I like the idea of the remote start keyless entry. However I have not done one on my 86 GT yet. I most likely will. I will at least do the keyless entry alarm stuff though. I want remote start but I am still considering it since it is a manual trans.

Phonedogz,

Thank you for the link....and for the concern....but it is a bit misplaced in this case.

I have been using an Ultrastarter 1271M for several years on several cars with no issues at all. The 'arm' process to permit use of the remote starter is kind of doing a lil dance, but it is second nature very quickly.

To arm the starter the car must be running (tach input to verify), the brake must be set (brake switch to verify), hood and doors must be closed (pin switches to verify), tap brakes twice and remove key....car will continue to run. Exit car within 30 seconds and close door: car will stop and remote start is armed. Since the car must be running when exited, it GUARANTEES that the car is in neutral (unless, I suppose you jump out while the car is moving forward )! If the hood or any door is opened, the remote start is disabled. Seems pretty foolproof and even mechanic proof to me, although fools are awfully clever! The site is: http://ultrastarters.com/

Oh, and it is CHEAP!!! Less than $50 when purchased direct from one of the distributors (call one in NJ for best price!)

Regards,
Larry
