so recently a noise has been emanating from the rear cam tower, over one piston in particular, i tracked the noise with a stethoscope. today i decided to tear into it to see what was making this horrible ticking noise. thinking that it would be a simple matter to remover the cover, i got this far and hit a road block.

i cant seem to get it to separate from the lower portion.
here you can see where the whole thing started to come off, not what i wanted.

finally after some wiggling jiggling and prying, it started to come off, but the section by the timing cover isnt budging. i asked my gearhead neighbor and he seemed to think i wouldnt need to remover the timing cover (god i hope not, the motor is still in the car)

im at a road block, where do i go from here?

You have to remove the timing chain housing. There are 4 bolts that screw into the front of the cam towers to secure the rear timing chain housing to the cam housings. The bad part is you have to pull the cam gears to get to the bolts. If I remember, getting the cam towers loose from the gaskets sucked as well.

edited when I got my memory back.
