Morning, guys,

OK, be kind....I am just learning and this is simply not clear to me.

Bubbajoe, at http://www.fortunecity.com/.../switch/67/id205.htm talks about using S-10 hubs in a Pontiac 6000 upright (Is 'knuckle' the right term?). So far as I can tell, he NEVER says which Fiero platform he is working on, that is '88 or pre-'88. I am not smart enough to tell from the pictures.

So, tell me, will this work on the rear of an '88?

TIA,
Larry

ooo the P6K... i miss mine. i never heard anything about S10 stuff and a 6K intermixing with each other other than using the same engine.

pmbrunelle,

Thank you, I had suspected that was the case. Can you go a step further and tell me the 'tells' on how to know that it is a pre-'88 from those pics?

Well, the suspensions look completely different.

84-87 rear suspension looks like a front suspension (because that's what it is). The tie-rods, instead of being attached to a steering rack, are attached to the cradle.

The article is about using Pontiac 6000 front knuckles on the back of an 84-87 Fiero.

I don't know why you would want to throw away your 88 Fiero suspension (the good one) in favor of a bastardized parts-bin front suspension in the back.

pmbrunelle,

Actually, I don't. Just trying to find a way to put 4.75 in bolt circle wheels on the back of an '88 without using adapters.

The most common way to do this is to press the bearing apart and have a larger machined flange welded to the backside of the existing wheel flange. Then drill this new flange for the 4 3/4" pattern and reassemble the wheel bearing.

Here is an 87 GT sporting 88 supsension front/rear and running the 4 3/4" bolt pattern:
