Car is an 86, with a 3800 SC mated to a Getrag 5 speed and a Spec stage 3 clutch. My issue is that the clutch doesn't engage until the pedal is almost all the way out. This has been the case since new, so I'm not suspecting wear as the culprit. My question is: Is it possible to adjust the engagement point on the pedal with the Fiero's hydraulic clutch setup?

Thanks,
Rich

www.rodneydickman.com sells a adjustable banjo for that. then you can adj the travel of the pedal. make sure the slave and master is VERY WELL bleeded! or maybe the two need to be rebuilt. use the MR2 slave rebuild kit and you WILL love that mod in fact do that no matter what! it is like a brand new system after the rebuild.<<<not hard to do at all!

If this is the case then you could switch to the 4 speed slave. It has a smaller bore and would make the engagement point lower. You can also put some washers behind the slave master cylinder on the firewall. That would drop the pedal.

Make sure your clutch hydraulics are up to par before you go monkeying with banjos or other mods. That's the problem most of the time. And check to see if your clutch pedal is bent. If it's the kind with the aluminum bracket that the banjo attaches to, that bracket could be bent. The Fiero Store sells one with a steel bracket.

Since your trouble is the opposite of most I would not suggest bleeding the lines or messing with them. You do not have a problem that could be caused by air in the line. Actually you could perhaps introduce some air into the lines to get the engagement where your looking for. I don't suggest that. I like Rodney's solution to your problem.

I didn't read your post carefully enough. You said, "This has been the case since new". Do you mean since you installed the new clutch? Did you machine the flywheel with the new clutch install? How much was taken off? Did you install a shim to compensate for what was taken off?

I've replaced the whole drive train in the car (ok, I paid bmwguru to have it done .) The car got a new flywheel from a Camaro, machined and balanced, but I dont know the specifics. The overall feel of the clutch is very good, it just doesn't grab until almost fully released. It makes it hard to pull out and also shift smoothly, and due to my own bad timing I often wind up slipping the clutch more than I like as a result of "deep clutching."

Washers sound like my most simple solution, so I'll try that first.

Thanks all for the suggestions!

Can a (rear wheel drive) Camaro flywheel be used in a Fiero? I've always heard you have to use an 88 Fiero flywheel with a 3.4.

The Camaro flywheel works well between the 3800 and the Getrag as well.
