okay so seeing as soon i will have a stable income and that i have no bills to pay rightnow i have been contemplating a radical engine and trans swap for the Renegade Fiero.

my thoughts are well, theres a member doing a V12 swap, plenty of 350 and 305s out there in fieros already and i like the 3800sc and have a car that has one that runs good while the rest of the car is falling apart(300,000 something miles and counting)

my thoughts countinue to this: I have a race set 351 in my Burban that is slightly cammed, has TBI and pushes around 300 hp maybe more. could do that in a swap but the burb is a monster mudding machine and i use it every year for camping and towing the racecar.

My real dream is this: either a 6.2 liter gas hog swap or a big biodeisel engine for monster tourque.

i met a guy a few years back that swapped his subarus moter for a deisel and got great results but idk if i want that much work either.

What are your thoughts? am i crazy or are my dreams to extreme? please somebody knock some sense into me!?

Yes, you're crazy - but its a crazy I'm cool with...

Things to think about:

the suburban runs - do you want to hack it up?

Would you have another engine ready to swap in the suburban?

Would it really be worth it to do two swaps at once?

Why not just build yourself up another engine like the one you have and swap that in instead?

---
Ok, I'm done asking questions now.

You'll miss the suburban. My vote is a diesel, don't see too many of those swaps in the construction zone!

If you can fit a 6.2 diesel in the Fiero, do it. Think of how much more fun the Fiero would be to drive with that, than the suburban with that. Either way good luck!

A 6.2l should have no problem fitting into a Fiero since it's nothing more than a diesel 350.

Not true.
It would be a tight fit, but the real issues are (1) the length of the 6.2, the injection pump is certain to cause some interference with the strut tower.
(2) the massive starter. Even the Powermaster version. How are you gonna secure it adequately to the other side of the engine?
I've got a 6.2 diesel in my '83 C-10. It can be swapped into many things, but I suggest you don't try it in your Fiero.

Why would the injection pump interfere with the strut tower when it's mounted above the lifter valley and underneath the upper intake manifold? So if it sits on top of the motor, how's it interfering with the strut tower? And the dimensions of the 6.2 are roughly 30"L x 26"W x 26"H, and the 6.2 is 379 CI, so why won't it fit?

Edit to add: I agree with you on the starter. It is oversized, and very heavy. You may have problems mounting it, but nothing that couldn't be worked out.

What's the power band of the 6.2 diesel? Is there a transaxle available that's geared correctly that can make use of the power curve in a 2800 lb Fiero?
