Hello, in trying to get my AC going on my 84 I have discovered the bolt that holds the compressor lines to the compressor is missing. Im sure its an SAE bolt but does anyone know what size? I also know this is a long shot as well but does anyone know where to get new orings for the fittings? I know you can get a kit with a bunch in there but It would be a pain to match the orings up without having none to go by. All the fittings on the dryer look good. I think if I can just get the bolt and the two orings I can suck it down and put some freeze 12 in it and hopefully it will work. I tried jumping out the low pressure switch on the dryer but could never get the compressor clutch to kick in. Im guessing there is another switch somewhere that is preventing it from working. I just wanted to make sure that circuit was good. The car idles up and the fans kick on like the clutch is engaged but it is not. Maybe the relay? If I can find a bolt and some orings I will track it down.

Thanks
matt

On an extra 84 compressor I have laying around, it is metric.

10mmx1.5 thread by 35mm length. If you are looking for an original, it should have a head that takes a 15mm wrench, and is flanged. Plus there is a flat washer approx 3mm thick under that.
The o-rings for the manifold to the compressor are Murray Climate Control # 24615.

Thanks a LOT for that info. I will run by the bolt/screw shop on Tuesday and get a bolt. We dont have any here at work that are flanged. I will measure our washers and see how thick they are.

thanks

After looking, I don't think the thickness of the washer is crucial. I'm betting it is more to prevent galling when tighting the steel bolt to the aluminum manifold. I'm guessing a standard flat washer would work just fine.

thanks. As for the clutch not engaging, if I have the low pressure switch jumped out and turn the AC on, the fan kicks on and the car idles up but no clutch. Does that not point to a faulty relay? I dont have a diagram on it but I would assume the ECM, low pressure switch, AC control switch and the high pressure cutoff are the only things that need to be made. The system is empty but with the low pressure switch jumped out I would think the clutch should engage. If the car is ideling up and fan kicking on, thats telling me at least the signal is making it to those places so I would suspect a bad relay. I doubt the high pressure switch is preventing it from working unless it is stuck open. I think I only saw two wires going to the compresor. One that looks to be a high presure switch and the other that has to come from the relay. If that is correct I should get continuity to ground from the high presure switch and 12 volts on the plug end with the car running, AC on, and low pressure switch jumped out. Am I correct on my thinking?

thanks a lot

Your welcome.

Your reasoning sounds correct. I would make sure you have 12 volts at the relay at A and E then past it when the low pressure switch is bypassed. If it is not making it past the relay, you found the problem, if so, could still be the clutch coil itself or it's connector on the front of the compressor, or the cut out switch. Good luck.

again, thanks for your help. That diagram really helps me out. I will just jump E and B on the relay and see if it cycles the clutch. If it does not I will also jump a wire from c to ground and see if that fires it. I did put another computer in it and I dont know if it had AC or not. If it does not I dont see a reason I could not run a seperate ground for the relay and just let the Switches fire the coil on the relay.
