Does anybody have a link for a schematic and or info on an OBDII ALDL interface Cable, preferably USB? And what is all needed. Do I need a scan tool and if so are there schematics out there to build one?

I dxon;t have time to search all the links, but if you go to http://batauto.com/technical/scaninfo.shtml , they have a whole section on aldl scanner links, some of which have links for build it yourself. there are some basic freeware software programs that will go with it. You will need to so a little searching on th elinks, but it is doable if you have some skill in assembling pc board circuits.

I have this unit, and I believe he has kits and the schematics are there in pdf: http://obddiagnostics.com/

I built the http://obddiagnostics.com/ using his board and chip kit. Has worked on every car I have used it on so far.

Be aware it does not read body codes however. Only engine and some power train the last I knew.

elm based scanners are pretty cheap built, and if you want to build one its obviously even cheaper.

They dont do much, but there is some ability to do custom programming that lets you dig a bit deeper into body/abs/enhanced codes.

I wouldnt mess with one unless you were using it for extremely simple data scanning, or if you were a programmer that is into messing with things.
