Soon I will be ordering a new oil pan and gasket for my 2.8 86 GT auto. and I'm trying to decide between a Spectra or a Dorman pan. A new Spectra from from Rockauto is $66.79 w/ 3-year warranty and a Dorman is $72.79 w/ drain plug and seal (plug seal?) w/ lifetime warranty. As far as the gasket, I think I'll go with the rubber material, as they do not tend to leak like the cork ones do.

Anyone have any opinions as to which pan is better? Opinions on the best gasket to use would be helpful as well.

TIA!

As for the pan, I'd use the Dorman. Most of the cheap chrome/fancy pans I've ever used have been of low quality and subject to leaks, especially around the drain plug. Factory pans from GM are no longer available.

Gasket, get one from GM. Accept no substitutes. P/N 10151654 last good number I have in my files.

Thanks for the replies - I believe I will be going with a Dorman oil pan.

For the gasket, I'm not sure if a person could actually get a GM brand or if they are AC Delco?
If I can't find one, I'll probably go for a Fel-Pro rubber (heard too many made from cork leak).

Thank again!

Ahhh, didn't know that. I bought one from the dealer but it may have been from old stock.

I got lucky.
