connected to 2 wires
one light green with black stripe
on drk green with white stripe

plugs into drivers side of motor head near exhaust manifold

my guess is---- " cooling fan temp. switch lead (c41) for (c60). see view b" (the fiero book says this but does not match reality)

It's your coolant gauge temp / overheat light sender connector. See the L shape? Fit's the gap in the top of the sender.
The radiator fan switch ('85-'86 Duke) only has 1 wire and is located in the block. Some '84's have a 2 speed fan but not sure what those fan switches look like. The '87-'88 Dukes do not have a fan switch, the ECM controls that function.

Ok, by your description then it must be the 2 speed coolant fan switch connector. Those I only know by reputation.

Your wire colors match the FSM description for the 2 speed fan switch connector. Check out page 917 in the electrical schematic section. Here is a link to the 1986 FSM if you don't have it (covers 84-86). http://spad.sytes.net/fiero/manuals/

This look right? RockAuto has it for $32.99 (yikes that's high)

84? No A/C? Then no two speed rad fan.
I think that plug would go to Sender if car had A/C for two speed rad fan. (see cave, rad fan)

thanks theogre

but my 84 has ac. so is it a two speed switch?

what other switches could i use.....or does it need to be an exact replacement ? ...... i can not find the exact switch at the auto parts store...

and a picture of a stock 84 cooling fan switch would still be nice

This is a pic that I just took. Are you looking for the sensor that is right by the exhaust manifold. Mine only has one wire (Blue/White stripe). I am not sure what that sensor is. This is from a stock 84 4spd no/ac

Here is a closeup shot of that sensor. Hopefully someone can identify it.

Please note that I had to remove the air filter to see that sensor. It was directly under the ThermAC

Heres a pic from the 1984 Service Manual. That sensor is labeled Coolant Sensor Switch.. The sensor on top of the head is labled coolant sensor switch/sender. Not sure the difference. And sorry for the poor image quality photos were just taken w/iphone.

These pics are also from the Service Manual. The first pic shows the wiring schematic for an 84 AC note it has both the green/black and green/white wires.

The second is a schematic of an 84 non ac (like my pic) with just the green/white.

Yes, that is the coolant temp switch. That switch send the signal to the radiator fan to turn on.

Check these pics together. Don't they fit? The sensor has a slot that matches the edge of the connector that looks like an "L". It has a cutout that looks like it matches the little tang that hangs down on the connector. Take a look at RockAuto:
