Finally rebuilt my rack last week,in the process found a few other issues that need addressed.

I've ordered new upper control arm bushing's,and pulled the upper control arms.
Offhand I can't see how to get the bushing's or the shaft out.
I have always pressed or burned out the rubber bushings when replacing.
I don't see a way to put this thing in a press or use a balljoint press to get the outer sleeve/bushing out.
The shaft is in the way,and I can't see how to get the shaft out without getting the bushings out first.
What's the secret?

I'm replacing with stock rubber, not poly.

I did search, but am only pulling up threads on the lower or rear arms.
Thanks for any help on the matter.

The shaft stays with the control arm, it does not get removed.

The only way to remove the shaft is to remove the bushing sleeves, you do not want to do that.

Burn them out, clean up the inside of the sleeves and press in the new bushings.

Okay,I was under the impression my new bushings would include the outer sleeve also (not simply the bushings).
I'll recheck the picture here in a few,I must be mistaken.
Bushing's won't be here till tuesday,so won't know for sure till then.

I had assumed I needed to remove the outer sleeve also,as i've had to do on other applications.

I can't speak for the Fiero upper bushings as I have only burned them out and replaced with poly. However, I recently replaced the bushings in the upper arms of my 70 Monte. Pretty much the same design as the Fiero - GM. I drove one of the bushings - sleeve and all out of the arm with a large drift/punch - a little heat may help and I was not worried about buggering up the outer sleeve with the punch. It came out fairly easy. Once you have one bushing out, the rod will come out. Then drive or press the other bushing out. Press one new bushing in, replace the rod and press the other new bushing in. There is a special bushing press that has adapters for the upper arm/rod. You may be able to get one on loan from AZ, O'Really's, etc. Good Luck!

Thanks Katatak.

The new bushings indeed come with new outer sleeve.
I plan to take a cutting torch to it to heat it up,chisel/cut/beat one side out
and the rest should go easy with our shop press.
I'll get them out tomorrow, repaint and do balljoints while I'm there.
Tuesday when bushings come in I'll pop them in and quick install and align.

I set the toe last week after rebuilding the rack,I'm using a newer hunter alignment machine.
I didn't do entire alignment since I had to order bushings.
I noticed the rear setting was like -1,and the computer did ask if I wanted
the stock or recall settings.
I chose recall,is this the correct setting?

I plan to coat the shaft with antisieze where it goes through the bushing, how worried
should I be that it might need replaced when removed?

I thought only rubber bushings come with new sleeves. So I am guessing you are going to be putting in rubber bushing, right? If so where did you find '88 bushings? When I looked for rubber bushings I was only able to find the large bushing for the trailing link.

Yes,1988 GT V6 Front Upper Control Arm bushing's-rubber with new sleeve.
Special order from Autozone-$7.99 +%20 emp discount.
O-reilly's and Napa also had them available but same price, longer wait.
Fiero store also,I think rodney had the cheapest though.

After some reading,I plan to pull the front springs and cut a 1/2 coil off.
While their out I can put some paint or coating on also.
I've found it good practice to repaint everything I take off, even little brackets.
It's slowly becoming new looking.

Update:

I burned out the old bushings, they don't shoot out a rubber rocket like the newer ones i've done though.
I used a stiff rod to poke through it and push out the rubber while it was burning.

I then put the control arm in a vise and used a chisel and hammer to get under the edge of the metal sleeve.
Then I used an air chisel to get it out the rest of the way.
I used a chisel and hammer to widen the split in the sleeves and knock them off as they were stuck to the shaft.
I will definately be using Antiseize both where the inner bushing sleeve rides and the holes through the shaft where it bolts to the frame.
I've got all the hardware cleaned up and painted, just need to cut off the balljoints and paint the arm.

Last night went out and also pulled the coils out,I'll cut the coils when I get home this evening with my die grinder.

Not a difficult job at all, assuming you have the correct tools (I'm a Ford tech and have everything available to me)

I'll get some pics up of the finished products when I'm done.
