I think so.
I suppose you could find a manufacturer, and compare part #'s
but, the cam/lifter set I am currently using, when I got the lifter set - it was a opened box, and 4 lifters removed - so I assume the same lifter package is sold for V8s

I'm pretty sure they are interchangeable. I know small and big block chevys are the same as the duke and I'm almost 100% certain that all GM hydraulic lifters are interchangeable across all of the engine families.

Does that mean that link-bar roller lifter conversions for SBCs will work on the 2.8?

Is the lifter bore pitch the same?

60 degrees is the bore pitch?
and - yes - tho - I would think just getting a newer 3400 block would be cheaper & easier.
stripping an existing block to drill & tab inside the lifter valley doesnt sound like fun.

That I don't know. I would think that just by design, distances between bores from engine family to engine family would not be the same.

I have looked on some manufacture's part #s, Crane for example. They list the same part # for a lifter but for another type of lifter they don't. So I think they are interchangeable I just wanted to see if anybody in the forum has done an interchange.

Thank you all for your input.

The lifters do not interchange from the SBC to the 2.8 Flat tappet lifter. There is a flat on one side on the V6 lifters because of the old style oiling system on the early 60 deg blocks. They will fit in the hole but that is about it.

According to the V6 Power Book, GM Performance hydraulic flat tappet part #5232720 is recommended for performance hydraulic camshafts. That part# is the same part # for all, small block and big block Chevrolet. The only specific is the solid lifter, only the Sealed Power AT-992 can be used in the 60* V6. (Chevrolet 60 V6 Power Manual, Page 19)
