I am posting this quick question before I purchase a new set of wheels from the TireRack. I will be purchasing them today or tomorrow... Also posting so if any other 88 owners do a search they may find it...

The wheels are for an 88gt w/ stock ride height and suspension

The wheels are ASA AR1's in the satin finish (will post links below).
Front will be 17x7 w/48mm offset
Rear will be 17x8 w/ 35mm offset

Another member tipped me off on these wheels; however, they used 38mm offset on the front. They said it fit, but according to the wheel chart that others have posted, seems like they would stick out past the fender a bit...

I just want to make 100% sure the wheels I order will fit and look proper!
Thanks for any comments on this matter
AL

opps, forgot links...
17x7 48mm
http://www.tirerack.com/whe...ase+Model&sort=Brand
17x8 35mm
http://www.tirerack.com/whe...ar=S+2.5L&sort=Brand

For others trying to search for wheels on Tirerack; I used the following cars to find the staggered set:
Front 17x7 = Wheels for 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5 X Base Model
Rear 17x8 = Wheels for 2008 Volkswagen Beetle Coupe S 2.5L
Those two model cars have the correct bolt pattern and very close offset to the 88 Fiero's

DTD does let you search by size. Specify your diameter, bolt circle and width. It'll list all the choices from cheapest on up, and specify the offsets. Much quicker and easier.

Nice wheels! (I have two sets of the AR1 black).

I would call their customer service - tell them you have an 88 and your concerns. Their staff are really good.

Sounds like a good setup for an 88. I just installed a very similar setup on my 86 (the rear wheels are 46 offset; sounds like too much, but it fits just fine). I may end up getting some 1/4" spacers for the front, as they tuck in more. If you're not sure what size tires to go with, I would recommend 205/50 for the front and 235/45 for the rear. Nice fit without excessive sidewall bulge.

I'll look very close to this. Though mine are 18 x 7.5 @ 42mm offset on the front (1.5" lip )
and the rears are 18 x 8 @ 32mm offset ( 2" lip )

I'm rolling on 215/40/18 fronts and 225/45/18 rears

I should mention that with my brake setup, I'm 3/16" further out on the rears than stock... Hope that helps.. Sweet rims though. Offset lips ALWAYS look good.

Thanks for the info guys!

unboundmo, I like the look of your wheels. My only concern w/ going with that size would be the lack of a buldge on the tire. I would like to keep a lil buldge to protect the rim somewhat from curb rash...

Gonna order a set sometime today...

Thanks again for the input,
AL

AR1's here also. Same goes California kid (black 17's), Rickady88GT (silver 17's), CCrider (black 17's), and a few others. Fantastic wheel for the money. Go for it!!

I'm the only one running 16's though!! They only weigh 18lbs.

EDIT: When searching tire rack try 2007 Pontiac vibe. Quite a few more options. Just make sure you get the correct centering rings for a fiero... not the vibe.

This may be a long shot; but do you know what offsets there all using?

Thanks for the info above,

Hey, just for your info... I just ordered and received my new wheels and tires from TireRack...

ASA AR9's (17x8 w/ 35mm)
with Yokohama Neova 215/45/17 Extreme W Rated Tires

I LOVE THEM!!! Wow, what a difference in handling, and they look VERY NICE on the car.

7" wide are a 37mm offset (front of all I believe). 8" wide are 35mm (back of most). Don't know if anyone is using the 48mm or not. When I got my car it came with 16x6 +47mm. This was on an 85GT. Hope this helps.

Ordered them today, I should be able to pick them up on Saturday

I went w/ 17x7 48mm up front and 17x8 35mm in back
Tires will be 225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear

For those that are running 30-something offsets up fronts, is your Fiero an 88?

Ahhh, picked up the wheels today and test fit them before having the tires mounted...

There is NO WAY I would be able to fit any other offset up front w/ a 17x7 then a 48+mm! I have about 3/8" of clearance between the front, inner lip of the wheel and the upper control arm. The lower arm/wheel has around 1/2" (if that)... IMO, the 48mm fits perfect... BTW, these measurements are w/ the wheel/suspension fully extended. You will have more clearance once the suspension settles...

For those who have 88's and go with an offset greater then 47-47mm, you will need spacers! As my 48mm offset is about as low as I would go w/o making contact at full extension...

The rear 17x8 35mm offset also fits perfect. Anything more (over 35+) would bring the wheel in too close to the upper knuckle (the part the lower strut attaches to). As mine sits now, I have about 1/2" of clearance, enough to fit the tip of my finger between... Going with an 18" wheel would give you more clearance as the inside of the wheel would now be above the knuckle...

Will post back once the tires are installed...
