I have a 3.4l PR engine and will be swapping it into my Fiero. A question has come up about which plenum is better for air flow. The Fiero intake or the 3.4.

What have you all found?

there is no intake worse than the stock Fiero intake.
the 3.4 Camaro intake will not work "as-is" - it will not clear the distributer

I must have gotten darned lucky...I have a 3.4pr with DIS, it even has a cap over where the distributor normally sits.. It is not a 3400.
Came out of a 95 Firebird

yup - thats the way to do it
also must swap the ECM for the 7730 ECM to make it all work
there are other little things, like clearing the thermostat housing - but this is a project I am working on as well

At the boneyard today. was looking at: a2.8 fiero intake, a 81 Camaro intake & a 3.4 intake. Is it possible to use the 81 camaro intake ,Turned around, so the inlet is pointed the other way ? I know this would create problems with linkage, But the camaro intake doesn't have the "bottleneck" that the fiero intake does. OR, how much trouble do you think it would be to cut out the "Neck off the camaro & "Weld it " onto the fiero manifold so it Would clear the distributor ? I'll have to look into that !

finally made it out to the u-pull-it yard this weekend
found me a 3.4 SFI intake from a Firebird
after taking it home, and sizing it up with a spare intake manifold, I noticed a few issues with doing this:
1> thermostat housing - it does not clear. going to need to do some monkeying around there. heard this was a problem - now I see why.
2> the existing throttle body - its 52mm - AT BEST - the neck of the plenum, it maybe even smaller there. looks like I will need to open up the neck, and drill/tap 2 new holes to using my bored 57mm TB - or is there another GM TB which fits, and has a larger bore?

has anyone actually done this swap yet? any hint/tips?

I've seen 3.4L P/R swaps that used the 3.4 plenum but they also retained the DIS system and electronics. If you want to use that plenum, that's the way to go.
